Home Base and Gateway to Adventure!

Be Aware!

Recently the Fijian Parliament passed a law requiring all foreign land owners to build a house on any vacant land they own or pay a fee every 6 months of 10% of the value of their land! The house must have a value of at least FJD $250,000. Land with structures already on them are deemed to fulfill this law's requirements. Therefore this bure and land is free from any penalty fees.

The Bure

A sloping gravel driveway seems to disappear into the jungle. But a turn around appears at the bottom, next to the path and 4 stairs that lead onto the deck of a 350 square foot A-frame bure. On the deck, the 5 meter wall opens up with two sets of double french-style doors, separated by a tall louvered window. The living space welcomes you with light from the large windows on each side and a high a-frame ceiling. At the back is an open kitchen, and next to it a private bathroom and shower. A set of sturdy stairs leads to an open sleeping loft with views in both directions through large windows high on the walls of the a-frame. From the living room couch you can look through the doors, over the deck, through the jungle and to the ocean, and the small cottage now seems large. Welcome to home base and gateway to your tropical playground!

The Specs

The bure is located on a 3,269 square meter lot (approximately 3/4 of an acre) designated as lot 5, aka 101A, on "deposited Plan 8030". The bure is 5 meters by 6 meters with an additonal 2 meter by 5 meter deck. A cozy loft over the kitchen and bathroom provides a bedroom for sleeping or an office for working. (See layout to the right) The bure is constructed of Fijian hard wood. Water is obtained by rain water catchment in a 5000 liter tank. This area can receive up to 12" of rain per month. Although electricity is not yet hooked up by Fiji Energy Limited, it is available on the street poles and the bure is wired for it (240v). Waste removal is by a septic field.
